Jim Flinchum, CFP®, CIMA®
Jim’s financial and investing experience began as a trust officer for Signet Bank and Bank One. He has served as a Vice President of Citigroup, a Senior Vice President for Bank of America, and a Senior Vice President for SunTrust. During his 35 years in banking, he assisted high net worth families, both domestically and internationally, with their investment, estate planning, and borrowing needs.
He holds a Bachelors of Science in Finance from Old Dominion University, an M.B.A. from the College of William and Mary, and a Masters of Science in International Finance from the University of Dallas. He has been designated a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional by the College of Financial Planning, and a CERTIFIED INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT ANALYST™ by the Investment Management Consultants Association. He also earned the Investment Management Consultants Association ADVANCED INVESTMENT STRATEGIST™ certificate, following his studies at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Jim has taught economics for the American Institute of Banking and the University of Texas.
Jim served in the U.S. Army Special Forces (1967-1970). In Texas, he was a city councilman and was appointed by the Texas governor to the State Depository Board, which supervised the state’s cash depository relationships.
Since returning to Virginia, Jim has served on the Virginia Beach Local Finance Board to monitor the investment portfolio of the Virginia trust fund on employee expenses, as well as the Mayor’s Select Committee on Pension Costs. He was appointed to the Virginia Public Building Authority by the Governor, which provided financing for state projects, facilities and obligations.
Jim is the past Chairman of the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce and remains active in the Virginia Beach Rotary club. He has received The Kessler Award – the national writing award from the Investment Management Consultants Association for the best financial article of the year. “The Evolution of Family Governance” discussed innovative new techniques to manage large family fortunes, including private trust companies, family banks, and family councils. Additionally, he was awarded The International Book Award for his novel Paybacks.
Jim is a consummate reader and a lousy golfer.
Joe Sallee, CFP®
Joe combines his 25 years of military experience with his financial and investing knowledge to meet his clients’ unique needs. He is committed to upholding a high level of ethics and providing unbiased advice. Before joining Bay Capital, he founded and served as CEO of Patriot Strategic Investments, LLC, where he served military families and government employees with their retirement planning and investment needs.
His Navy career took him around the world, where he was exposed to many of the different cultures that affect our global economy. His unique experiences, and diverse background enable him to bring a fresh perspective when advising his clients and managing their investment portfolios.
Joe is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his Bachelors in Physics, and gained a love of college football. He has a Master’s of Science in Management from North Carolina State University, as well as a Master’s of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He has been designated a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional by the College of Financial Planning.
Joe serves on the board of directors for the Virginia Beach Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). He volunteers as a board member with the Virginia Beach Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which provides support and advocacy for young children who have suffered neglect and abuse and serves on the United Way of South Hampton Roads Financial Review Panel.
Joe currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Joe and his wife, Martine, have four children, with one serving in the Army. He enjoys spending time in the beautiful Virginia outdoors and watching his kids play sports.
