Some years ago, I had the opportunity to tour China. In Beijing, our hotel was close to the national headquarters of the Communist Party. A short walk later, I stood mesmerized in front of their massive building. While I confess to being 100% biased against the Chinese Communists, their headquarters building made my skin crawl. It just seemed genuinely sinister or evil!
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Likewise, enormous power corrupts enormously.
It pains me to agree with the Chinese Communist Party on anything, but they are cracking-down on their big technology companies . . . GOOD! Their giant companies have become too big and too powerful to coexist with the Chinese government.
The Chinese Communist Party has absolute power, of course, but Facebook, Google and others have enormous power. We need to crack-down on them. For years, they have stolen the privacy of Americans. They are making craziness respectable, providing a platform for the zaniest Americans to spread outright lies. They permit ignorance to kill Americans!
Finally, the Biden Administration has taken DOJ’s Antitrust Division out of mothballs, which may provide some help. Almost reflexively, Republicans attack anything called “the media” and are already focused on our big technology companies . . . GOOD! Now, the Democrats need to help . . . not because the tech companies are big, but because they steal privacy and make craziness respectable, providing a platform for the zaniest Americans to spread outright lies. They are utilities that must be more carefully regulated.
