Changing Manners

My parents always told me NEVER to discuss religion, politics, or the best way to raise children. That has never been more true. In overly-opinionated America, nobody cares what you think anyway, because they already know you are WRONG! Whether you are right or wrong, could you ever – EVER – convince your neighbor that either President Biden needs to resign or maybe, former President Trump? That’s a fool’s errand! They have their own opinion, thank you, and don’t need to hear anything you have to say. After all, they have their own echo chambers – Fox or MSNBC – and don’t need your thoughts.

The Age of Enlightenment and reasoned arguments is over, even in the Supreme Court. If you stand up to defend your candidate or political party, that is NOT courageous. My mother would chastise you, saying you have bad manners. My father would simply say you’re stupid for wasting the time.

Between now and the election, my favorite song will be 1966 classic “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel.

The thoughts, opinions, and emotions expressed above are solely those of the writer, Jim Flinchum, and not the thoughts, opinions nor emotions of Bay Capital Advisors, period!
