Needing Negativity ?

Why are things always getting worse? Or, are they?

Today, you would find it difficult to convince most Americans today that inflation is no longer a problem. Good luck on that! Going from 9% to only 3% is no reason to celebrate, I guess? Surely, we can celebrate our 5.2% GDP growth rate? Nope? Jobless rates are near record lows, but that’s not good enough either??

According to Gallop, 64% of adults argue that crime is a huge, rapidly growing problem. Huh? According to the FBI, however, the murder rate, violent crime, aggravated assault, and robbery are all down. Who should I trust – the FBI or the mass media?

Selling fear has long been the forte of Madison Avenue and Hollywood. After all, it is easier to control consumers with fear than truth. Politicians in particular like to sow fear — Be very afraid and vote for me!

As individuals, we don’t really need negativity. As Americans, our politics and our economy need it?

My friends and neighbors don’t understand why my hair is NOT on fire. How can you be so sanguine? Don’t you understand how much the national debt is? But, what’s $34 trillion among friends?

The short term economy is surprisingly strong, and my long-held fear of the national debt will remain sanguine, i.e., until the dollar tanks in value, which is a s-l-o-w moving train wreck.

In the meantime – be very afraid . . . NOT!
